The two companies signed an agreement late Friday at the Skylight Hotel, bundling Ethio telecom’s Fixed Broadband and Mobile Internet Data Services with DStv’s entertainment offerings. Unlike traditional DStv subscriptions, this service does not require a set-top box or satellite dish, as content can be streamed online.

Customers can choose from various monthly mobile data and fixed broadband packages featuring DStv's Gojo, Beteseb, Meda, Meda Plus, and Premium plans at discounted rates. The bundled service, which includes a single-bill payment system, aims to expand the customer base for both companies.

Premier League matches, one of DStv’s biggest viewership drivers, will be available for a monthly fee of 1,750 birr, paired with a 7 Mbps fixed broadband connection. New customers can subscribe to the DStv Gojo streaming package along with a 5 Mbps fixed broadband service for a total of 926 birr per month. Existing customers will need to pay an additional 230 birr in monthly top-ups.

Gelila G. Michael, Managing Director of MultiChoice Ethiopia, hailed the agreement as a transformative moment for Ethiopia’s entertainment industry, emphasizing the convenience and value it brings to customers.

This partnership comes just two weeks after MultiChoice Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ethiopian Patent Rights Protection Authority and the Ministry of Culture to combat digital piracy. The collaboration aims to strengthen efforts to protect intellectual property rights and curb unauthorized digital content distribution.

Sports broadcasts, particularly football matches, are among the most pirated content in Ethiopia, with many viewers accessing games through illegal streaming apps like Yacine TV. MultiChoice and Ethio telecom by offering affordable, data-inclusive streaming options, they could potentially reduce the demand for illegal streams and enhance legitimate consumption of premium sports content.

Fixed broadband customers can access the bundle by visiting Ethio telecom shops, while mobile data users can purchase streaming data bundles via the telebirr Super App or by dialing telebirr’s USSD code.
