Raxio Group, which builds and operates a network of data centers in Africa, has inaugurated its latest facility in Addis Ababa, built at the cost of 30 million dollars.
The data center, which was unveiled today, November 21, 2023, is a Tier III design-certified carrier-neutral data center. Tier is the international standard for data center performance, where ‘neutral’ signifies the data center’s capability in facilitating interconnectivity among multiple telecommunications carriers.
Situated in the ICT Park, construction of the center took three years. The center that lies on 2000 square meter area, can accommodate 800 racks. Raxio promises its customers an optimized environment for their IT equipment in a scalable facility, security, AC/DC power compatibility, and redundancy.
“The launch of our flagship facility in Addis Ababa represents a major milestone in our journey at Raxio and for our country. We anticipate that this facility will be a catalyst for increased economic development in Ethiopia, supporting local businesses and government agencies, as well as attracting regional and international service and content providers into Ethiopia,” stated Bewket Taffere, General Manager of Raxio Data Centre in Ethiopia.
Established in 2018, Raxio Group is a portfolio company of a US-based investment firm called Roha Group Inc. Raxio Africa provides Tier III data centers that serve Africa’s digital entities and its operations span Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, and Tanzania. The company came to Ethiopia targeting the nation’s new digital ambitions.
Last month, Raxio announced it had secured an additional $46 million in equity funding. This significant investment comes from existing shareholders Roha and Meridiam.
