The upcoming episode of EdTech Mondays Radio Show will look into digital divides in education examining ways to unlock Edtech’s potential for bridging the gap and spearheading equity.
Airing Today, Monday, July 29, 2024, at 8:10 p.m. EAT on Fana FM 98.1 and 10 other affiliated FM radio stations across the country, this month’s episode will curate a crucial conversation that brings together a policymaker, rural educator, and Edtech technology provider.
The digital divide in education is fueled by economic barriers, geographic disparities, and insufficient educational resources. Students from low-income families and rural areas often lack affordable access to the internet and digital devices, putting them at a significant disadvantage. This lack of access hinders their academic performance and digital literacy development, limiting their future opportunities.
The consequences of such digital divide are far-reaching, exacerbating educational inequities and creating gaps in academic achievement, digital literacy, and future prospects. Students without access to digital resources struggle to keep up with their peers, falling behind in their studies and missing out on the benefits of technology-enabled learning. This digital divide perpetuates a cycle of disadvantage, hindering social mobility and limiting the potential of these students.
Educators and educational institutions play a crucial role in advocating for and implementing solutions to promote digital equity. By actively engaging with policymakers, technology providers, and community leaders, they can help shape policies and programs that address the unique needs of their local contexts.
Moderated by Rediet Meshesha and produced by the Mastercard Foundation and Shega Media & Technology, EdTech Mondays is a monthly radio show that serves as a platform for critical conversations surrounding the use of technology for teaching and learning.
